School Places Strategy

We are asking for views on our draft School places strategy, 2026-2031.

This consultation runs from Thursday 20 November to Sunday 4 January 2026 (midnight)

You can help shape the future of education in Leicestershire by sharing your views on our strategy to ensure a suitable number of high quality school places are available in the right place, at the right time.

With new housing developments leading to rising pupil numbers in some areas and more families choosing county schools, we’re asking for feedback on our updated School Places Strategy for 2026 - 2031.

Key proposals include

  • Building new primary and secondary schools in areas of large housing growth across Leicestershire.
  • Improving access to special educational needs (SEN) provision through new and expanded provisions.
  • Expanding existing schools where needed to meet local need.
  • Reorganising schools where this is needed to ensure sustainable schools which serve their local communities for the future.
  • Working closely with Local Authority maintained schools and academy trusts to deliver high-quality provision in the right place and at the right time.
  • Using data and forecasts to strategically plan school places and ensure every child has access to a good school
