Engagement 2026

Closed consultations and engagements.

Our budget 2026-30

Date: 17 December 2025 to 18 January 2026

We asked

Our yearly core budget is £660m - or £1.3bn including all grants and income that relate to specific services.

The county council is one of the biggest organisations in Leicestershire, spending more than £20m every week on crucial services for our residents.

This is your chance to shape the budget - and influence services which impact you and your family.

What happens next

You comments have been much appreciated and will help shape final proposals. The full council will agree its budget on 18 February 2026.

VCSE Engagement Survey

Date: 10 December 2025 to 16 January 2026

We asked

Leicestershire County Council currently holds contracts and grant agreements with a small number of organisations who provide support to VCSE (Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise) sector organisations. These include charities, community organisations, social enterprises, community interest companies (CICs) and faith-based organisations.

The agreements are as follows:

  1. Infrastructure support for VCSE organisations (delivered by Voluntary Action Leicestershire - VAL)
  2. Support for social enterprises (delivered by Co-operative and Social Enterprise Development Agency - CASE)
  3. Community buildings support (delivered by Rural Community Council - RCC)

The contracts and grant agreements are currently due to end on 31 March 2027.

What happens next

Your views will be considered for the review of these agreements to inform our planning for the future.

Big travel survey

Date: 4 November 2025 to 11 January 2026.

We asked

We asked how you get around in your everyday lives - how you take your journeys, whether you drive, walk, wheel, cycle, use public transport, or rely on lifts from others.

This will help us:

  • Learn how, why, when and where people travel across Leicestershire
  • Understand what makes travel easier or more difficult
  • Identify barriers that prevent people from accessing essential services like healthcare, education, shops and leisure activities, as well as work places

We wanted to learn about any challenges you face; such as access to services, and work places.

What happens next

Your feedback will help us shape future plans that support more inclusive travel across Leicestershire.

School Places Strategy

Date: 20 November to 4 January 2026

We asked

You can help shape the future of education in Leicestershire by sharing your views on our strategy to ensure a suitable number of high quality school places are available in the right place, at the right time.

With new housing developments leading to rising pupil numbers in some areas and more families choosing county schools, we’re asking for feedback on our updated School Places Strategy for 2026 - 2031.

Key proposals include

  • Building new primary and secondary schools in areas of large housing growth across Leicestershire.
  • Improving access to special educational needs (SEN) provision through new and expanded provisions.
  • Expanding existing schools where needed to meet local need.
  • Reorganising schools where this is needed to ensure sustainable schools which serve their local communities for the future.
  • Working closely with Local Authority maintained schools and academy trusts to deliver high-quality provision in the right place and at the right time.
  • Using data and forecasts to strategically plan school places and ensure every child has access to a good school

What happens next

Your responses have been very much appreciated and we'll take your views on board to help us shape the final strategy.
