Ava, a student from North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire college - Wigston Campus shares her experience as she undertakes a T Level to help her build a career in childcare.
Learning Through Experience
One of the biggest benefits of this course is how it combines classroom learning with hands-on experience. I have had the chance to apply what I have learned in class to real life situations, during my placement, which has made a huge difference. Working with children from 0-5 years has helped me understand their development in a way that a book alone never could.
Focusing on One Subject
I love that the T Level focuses on just one subject. Unlike ‘A Level’, where you must juggle multiple subjects, this course lets me fully concentrate on early years education without the added stress.
A Mix of Theory and Practice
A typical day in my course includes both theory-based lessons and placement days. At college, we study child development, different learning environments and key theorists. Then on placement days, we get to put all that knowledge into practice. Seeing how children interact and learn is an eye-opening experience and it’s made my studies much more engaging.
Building Confidence and Career Opportunities
I used to struggle with public speaking but working with people has really improved my communication and presentation skills. This course has also made me realise that there are so many career paths I can choose from in early years.
Balancing Coursework and Placement
Balancing studies and work placement can be challenging. Having a good time management schedule is key. I make sure to do my placement work on placement days and college work on college days. Having a structured routine has helped me to stay on top of everything.
“It has given me real-world experience and helped me to build my confidence and opened so many opportunities for my future. I would recommend it to anyone looking to work in early years education.”
