Parent Portal for school applications

Guide to using the parent portal and setting up an account.

Applications for a school place in autumn 2025 opened from 1 September 2024. Please refer to the individual pages for application closing dates (secondary school applications will be closing soon).

Changed school during the year:

If you’ve applied for a school place over the summer break, please bear with us. We’re in contact with schools for information on vacancies, but most have only just returned and need time to check. This shouldn’t take long and we’ll issue decisions as soon as we can.

Use the portal to apply

You'll need a parent portal account to apply for a school place. If you don't already have an account you'll need to set one up first, otherwise just follow the instructions in the document below to apply:

Login and apply online

Refer to our main Apply for a school place pages for important information, including key dates and other details, before using the portal. The parent portal works best with Google Chrome web browser on PC.

When your application is complete, please remember to press submit. This will generate a confirmation email. If not, try again.

Setting up a portal account

You can either log in using your social media account or a user name and password. Always use the same login route to access your account, that you first used to create it (either social media or login screen). If you chose a different sign in route next time, it's likely that you'll have  a problem signing in, or you'll not see the information that you previously entered.

Using your social media account to sign in

You can use your Microsoft, Google, or Facebook account to register, then select the relevant button and follow the instructions on screen. In that case steps 3 onwards (under Sign-in screen) below would not apply to you. If you then have any problems signing-in using your social account, you'll need to resolve these with your social account provider.

Sign in screen

Step 1: On the first sign in screen select Sign in with Leicestershire Parent Portal.

Step 2: On the Sign in page, select Sign up now to be taken to the registration User details page.

There's a 2 step verification process – a valid email address and a valid phone number will need to be provided to get a verification code to access the portal. A mobile phone is best, but a landline will also work.

Step 3: Enter your email address and select Send verification code. A unique verification code will be emailed to you to enter, to continue with creating the account (check your Junk Mail folder for an email from leicsb2c.onmicrosoft.com if you don't see it)

Step 4. Enter the verification code in the user details page and then select Verify code.

Step 5. Enter the same password twice, then your given name (first name) and your surname, then select Create.

Your password must be between 8 and 64 characters long and must have at least 3 of the following (avoid easily guessed words like ‘Password’ or your name)

  • a lowercase letter
  • an uppercase letter
  • a digit
  • a symbol, for example: £ $ %
Multi-factor authentication

Step 6. You will then be taken to the multi-factor authentication page where you will be required to enter a phone number to receive a verification code in a text message.

Make sure that United Kingdom (+44) is selected in the country code and enter a valid phone number – it's best to use a mobile number, but a landline number will also work. Select Send code to continue.

Step 7. If you entered a mobile number, you'll be sent a 6-digit code by text message. If you entered a landline number, you'll receive a call with an automated 6-digit code message – be ready to note this down! Enter the code on the screen and select Verify code.

If you enter a wrong phone number or country code, don't select 'Cancel' as this will cause an error in your account creation process, wait 5 minutes then click refresh in your internet browser instead. This will reload the page and you can re-enter the correct information and request to 'Send code.'

Review your account

On the Review account page, enter your personal details and then select Confirm details to complete your registration.

You are now ready to use the Parent Portal.
