Planting a tree on your land, or in your garden or community does not have to be expensive. There are many free tree schemes run by organisations such as the Woodland Trust. Talk to your parish council, school or community group if you’d like to plant more trees in your neighbourhood – whether you live in an urban or rural part of the county. You might even have a local Tree Warden or an Environmental Action Volunteer that could help you with this.

Free trees for landowners
We offer free trees to replace those lost to disease such as Ash Dieback, plus tree and hedgerow packs. Find out more and how to apply.
Become a Tree Warden
Tree Wardens are appointed by the Parish Council and in Market Harborough Town by Harborough Woodland as guardians of your local trees and are also a source of advice and can help you organise a tree planting scheme.

Environment Action Volunteers are employed by Leicestershire County Council to support advocacy in the community to ‘Make Space for Nature’ and improve biological diversity across Leicestershire.

The Queen’s Green Canopy
The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) is a unique tree planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022 which invites people from across the United Kingdom to ‘Plant a Tree for the Jubilee’. Find out more on the official QGC website.
