Flood alerts as heavy rain continues to fall

Drivers warned to avoid flood water

Rain on the ground in a Leicestershire road

A yellow weather warning remains in place in Leicestershire today as more rainfall is expected with several flood alerts in place across the county.

The county council has closed off Church Hill Road at Thurmaston, Gartree Road in Oadby and Mill Street, Packington.

Highways' teams have also been checking roads in Packington where there's a flood warning in place.

Around 15-20mm of rainfall had fallen across Leicestershire by 11am this morning.

A council spokesperson said: "We're urging drivers not to travel through a road which is closed due to flooding. The closures are there to keep you safe."

The council is also encouraging people to check their flood risk and to sign up for local flood alerts.
