The chairman for 2017-18 is Janice Richards

New county council chairman Janice Richards

Janice Richards is set to become the 43rd Chairman of Leicestershire County Council.

Councillor Richards has been married to Tony for 55 years and together they have a son and a daughter, six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

An Earl Shilton resident for more than 50 years, she ran her own successful hair and beauty salon in the town and is a member of a local rambling club.

During her year as civic figurehead, Janice has chosen to support the Joe Humphries Memorial Trust. The local charity raises awareness of Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome (SADS) and promotes education and training for young people.

I am thrilled to be taking up the position of Chairman of the County Council. The role will take us to all corners of Leicestershire, and provide opportunities to meet many people who work tirelessly for the benefit of our county.

Janice takes over the reins from Coun Bill Liquorish and is set to be sworn in tomorrow (Wednesday 17th). Councillor Ozzy O'Shea will be the council’s new Vice Chairman.
