Citizenship ceremonies

If your application to become a British citizen has been successful you will need to attend a Citizenship ceremony at Anstey Frith House, Glenfield.

Confirmation

Your confirmation that you are able to attend a ceremony will come directly from the Home Office (usually via email) and this will instruct you to which Registration Service you need to attend.

We receive certificates from the Home Office weekly, and if contact details are included we will try and contact you to book your place at a ceremony.

You can also call us on 0116 305 5990 to discuss getting booked on to a ceremony.

If your confirmation states you need to attend a ceremony at the Leicester City Registration Service, please call 0116 454 1000 instead.

Attendance and legal requirement

It is a legal requirement to attend your Citizenship ceremony within 3 months of your certificate being produced. Failure to attend during this period will mean your certificate will be returned to the Home Office and you will need to contact them to discuss your options.

Our ceremonies are generally held every 3 weeks (the day of the week varies) at:

Leicestershire Register Office
Anstey Frith House
Glenfield
LE3 8RN

Identification

Before the ceremony you will need to present:

  • photographic ID (eg. passport, driving licence etc.)
  • confirmation from the Home Office in order to be checked in (we can look at this on your mobile device)

Procedure

We have space in the ceremony for up to 25 new citizens and these group ceremonies are free to attend. The ceremony starts at 5.30pm with the doors being open from 5pm, to sign in the new citizens and to enjoy some refreshments.

The ceremony lasts around 30 minutes and is led by a Deputy Superintendent Registrar with a representative from the Leicestershire Lieutenancy Office also in attendance. You can bring up to 3 guests with you to share in this special occasion, this does include any children.

During the ceremony you will be asked to swear or affirm an oath, along with a pledge of allegiance. You will be called up individually to receive your certificate and a small gift. There will be an opportunity at the end of the ceremony to take some photos.

Private citizenship ceremonies

If you're unable to attend our group ceremonies or want your certificate sooner, we do offer private Citizenship ceremonies. We have more flexibility with days and times of these ceremonies (during weekday office hours); however, they do incur a charge.
