Lynn's family incentive to quit smoking

Grandmother achieves goal through support of QuitReady,

When Lynn Robinson lost her mum to lung disease, it proved to be the trigger for her to give up smoking.

Now she's achieved that goal through the support of QuitReady, Leicestershire County Council's  in-house stop smoking service.

Lynn, 48, of Whitwick, says: "It's been more than six months since I quit and I never think about having a cigarette. It's been brilliant."

The health of her grandson also contributed towards Lynn's decision to quit: "He has been diagnosed with a serious heart condition, but he's beaten the odds and he's doing great. I want to spend time with him and the rest of the family - that's so important to me."

Lynn also praised the support she has received from the QuitReady team. "The service has been great. It really suits me as my advisor is really flexible and calls me back when it's convenient and fits around my life."

Since QuitReady launched in January this year, more than 700 people have been supported to kick the habit.

Lynn's story is a great example of the journey which people take to quit smoking. We have fewer smokers in Leicestershire than other parts of the region, but we want to drive the figures further down

QuitReady offers free and confidential text and phone advice. The service is available Monday to Friday (9am - 7pm) and Saturday (10am - 2pm). To find out more, visit www.quitready.co.uk or text 'Ready' to 66777 or call 0345 646 66 66.
