A scheme to provide homes for adults with disabilities in Great Glen has moved a stepped closer.
We have purchased a building to launch its Brookfields Independent Living Scheme, providing accommodation for adults with a long-term disability.
The investment will enable residents to be as independent as possible, to have choice and control over where they want to live, who they want to live with and the support they receive.
There are more than 360 people, who are already benefitting from supported living, but we’ve identified a need for more support for people from the Harborough area.

Person:Councillor Richard Blunt, cabinet member for adult social careWe purchased the site from previous owners Waterloo Housing Group, who were operating a sheltered living scheme for older people. Waterloo made the decision to sell the land following a reduction in demand.
Plans for the remodelled scheme have been developed and the next steps will see us go out to providers before the end of the year to award a contract for the refurbishment works.
The refurbished building will provide up to 20 flats and a small communal area. This will see the removal of existing, unsuitable bedsits on site and will improve the external aspect of the building.
Should the remodelling go to plan the aim is to have the first new tenants move in during the autumn of 2019.
