Adult learning centre opens its doors

Open day this weekend to mark occasion

County council chairman opens Enderby adult learning centre

The new adult learning centre in Enderby, offering dozens of courses in a wide range of subjects, is now officially open.

To mark the occasion, the Townsend Road centre is holding an open day on Saturday (1 December) from 10am to 4pm - complete with free, hand-on taster sessions and a chance to save money on course fees.

Staff at the centre are issuing an open invitation to prospective learners, local residents, and businesses who would like to see the exciting developments to the building - and the range of courses available.

Tasters on offer will include Christmas crafts, pottery, quesadilla making, festive fabric wreath-making for adults with learning disabilities, basic coding, introduction to tablet computers, quizzes, mindfulness meditation and 30-minute languages tasters.

There will also be the opportunity to talk to advisors about  any of the available learning opportunities and routes into learning, including  information, advice and guidance for anyone considering taking up a traineeship  or apprenticeship.

Anyone who enrols on one of the courses available at Enderby on the day will also get 10 per cent  off the course fee.

The new Enderby centre is highly-equipped and the perfect base for a wide range of adult learning courses to suit all needs and tastes. I would encourage people to go along to the open day and find out more about the courses on offer and to try out some of the taster sessions.

Dozens of learners, who are already using the centre for a range of courses, and their tutors were on hand at the official opening this week.

The centre was officially opened by David Jennings, vice-chairman of Leicestershire County Council. It is housed in the former Danemill Primary School building and has been transformed into a state-of-the art facility.

The centre offers part-time day, weekend and evening courses including maths and English, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), employability skills, IT and  computing, sewing, pottery, fused glass, jewellery making, fitness classes, photography, astronomy, drawing and painting, cookery, Spanish, Italian, French, Greek and British Sign Language.

All courses are run by Leicestershire County Council’s adult learning service and are open to adults aged 19 upwards.

Anyone who would like more information about the open day,and to sign up for one of the free taster sessions,is asked to call the Enderby Team on 0116 305 0360 or the Central Enrolment Team on 0800 988 0308.
