If the parking fine is not paid within 28 days and there is no challenge then the owner of a vehicle is liable for the penalty charge notice, even if they were not driving the vehicle when the parking fine was issued.
There are 2 levels of charges for parking fines:
- £50 for lower level contraventions such as parking for longer than restrictions permit
- £70 for higher level contraventions such as parking on double yellow lines or parking in a taxi rank
The parking fine is reduced by 50% if it is paid within 14 days.
You can challenge a parking fine if you feel it should not be paid.
Payment of the parking fine will close the case and there will be no further correspondence.
