Educational Psychology

The Leicestershire Educational Psychology Service (LEPS) can provide support to schools in response to critical incidents.

Critical incidents and educational settings

We provide different levels of critical incident support to educational settings based on the nature of the incident.

Level 1: Expected bereavement and loss

  • Telephone conversation with Senior Leadership Team (SLT)
  • Signposting to resources and Leicestershire Educational Psychology Service (LEPS) training
  • Possible visit of the Educational Psychologist as necessary

Level 2: Critical incident (sudden/traumatic loss)

  • Telephone conversation with Senior Leadership Team (SLT)
  • Team of two or more Educational Psychologists to visit school and support SLT with their management of the incident and support the wider school community

Level 3: Major incident/emergency

  • LEPS response may be part of a larger multi-agency response from Leicestershire County Council
  • LEPS involvement coordinated by the Principal Educational Psychologist (PEP) / senior educational psychologists (SEPs) in conjunction with partner agencies

An incident or sequence of events which overwhelms the normal coping mechanisms of the school community.
