Temporary garden and household waste permit

The temporary garden and household waste permit scheme is currently suspended

Applications for waste permits are suspended

You currently do not need a waste permit unless you are disposing of household chemicals.

Waste types are restricted - check the waste site pages for the types of waste we can currently accept.

Please book an appointment if you need to visit a site.

You'll need a permit if you're using a:

  • Van, pick-up truck or any vehicle designed or altered to transport goods
  • Trailer 4 foot 6 inches (1.37 metres) long or over (from front board to back board)

Key facts about temporary garden and household waste permits:

  • Permits are free of charge
  • Valid for 14 days at one site
  • Permits are registered to one person and one vehicle – they are non-transferable
  • You can collect your permit in person or receive it in the post

Collecting your permit

You can collect your permit from County Hall or any of the following libraries - during staffed hours - straight after placing your order:

From 1 April 2019 our libraries will be 'Smart Libraries' with revised opening hours that allow self access during non-staffed times. You can only collect your permit when the library is staffed.

Alternatively you can choose to receive your permit through the post.
