Updates

  • Take a look at some of our events that you can attend.
  • We're experiencing high demand for advice via the HERO offer and may take longer to respond to enquiries at this time.

The HERO scheme provides advice to households on how to improve energy efficiency. Additional support may be given to eligible residents through one-to-one advice in their home and a free assessment to identify recommended improvements. If you are a Leicestershire County resident and not eligible for this service, you can still receive free energy saving advice via the Warm Homes team. Our advisers will speak to you in the first instance to identify the advice and support we can offer.

The service aims to provide residents with the knowledge and confidence to make informed decisions about investing in their homes. The service offered will be tailored towards the needs of the resident and can therefore signpost towards relevant grant funding or assist with the application where funding is available for retrofit measures.

HERO is targeting:

  • households on low incomes
  • residents who are vulnerable to the cold, such as those with long-term health conditions or disability
  • residents living in properties which are hard-to-treat (for example: older, solid wall, non-standard construction)

Eligibility

To access additional support, you must be a home owner or private tenant and meet one of the following criteria:

  • You have a gross household income of £31,000 or below
  • You receive means tested benefits
  • You have a diagnosed chronic long-term health condition impacted by cold weather
  • All members of the household residing in the property are 65 or over

AND one of the following applies:

  • You have an energy performance certificate (EPC) of D – G
  • You don't have an EPC and live in a domestic property which was built before 1991

Eligible households can receive in-person advice free of charge via a home visit. If you’re not eligible or not interested in a home visit, we can still offer telephone advice about grants you might be eligible for or self-funded options and how to apply.
