Council working closely with supermarket giant on traffic plan

Motorists are being warned to expect significant delays from next week as contractors working on behalf of Tesco continue work on a new express store in Leicester Forest East.

The work being carried out by the supermarket giant at the junction of Hinckley Road (A47) and Kirby Lane involves a new entrance and exit from the car park and associated changes to the traffic signals, including better crossing facilities for pedestrians. There will also be carriageway resurfacing.

Work is due to start on Monday, 20th January and is expected to take around three weeks to complete. It will involve:

  • The full closure of Kirby Lane for the duration of the works to allow two-way, unrestricted traffic flow on the A47;
  • The A47 will also close for one full weekend from the evening of Saturday, 8th February to the morning of Monday, 10th February so that resurfacing work can take place at the junction;

We are working closely to ensure that Tesco develop a traffic management plan which enables the works to be completed in the shortest time-frame possible.

This is a complex job being carried out by Tesco which will cause disruption but we are doing all we can, as the highways authority, to minimise the impact on road users
