Family fun with an active message at Watermead

Picnic area will host competitions to win prizes

A free, family-friendly event promoting active travel takes place on Saturday (14th September) at Watermead North Country Park (12 noon to 4pm).

The county council’s safe and sustainable travel team will be leading fun activities in the picnic area opposite King Lear's  Lake, including treasure trails, and competitions, with prizes up for grabs.

A qualified mechanic will be on hand to give bikes a free-of-charge health check and there will also be the opportunity to try out weird and wonderful bikes, such as pedalling your own smoothie for an extra health kick, or getting creative on a paint-spinning bike to produce a piece of art to take home.

There will also be the chance to contribute to a community arts project by helping organisers to 'yarn bomb' the Choose How you Move bicycle or to join ride leaders on an exploration of local cycle paths, discovering how easy it can be to get around Leicester and Leicestershire.

We want to encourage and help more families take advantage of the great benefits of active travel, which include improving levels of physical activity, reducing stress, and helping reduce pollution levels. Getting children involved in active travel at an earlier age is also helping to support adults to stay healthy

More information can be found at www.facebook.com/ChooseHowYouMove/   Registration is not necessary.
