Between Life and Death Holocaust exhibition

A moving international exhibition sharing remarkable stories of courage and compassion during the Holocaust will open at Loughborough Library this March.

‘Between Life and Death: Stories of Rescue during the Holocaust’ brings together personal accounts from across Europe. It shows how ordinary people risked imprisonment, deportation and even death to help Jewish people.

Developed by the European Network Remembrance and Solidarity (ENRS) with the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews and the Silent Heroes Memorial Centre, the exhibition explores the complexity of rescue through stories from across the continent.

This exhibition shines a light on extraordinary acts of courage shown by ordinary people during one of the darkest chapters in history. We are honoured to be hosting the national exhibition here at Loughborough Library and to share these powerful stories with our communities.

A dedicated UK section of the exhibition highlights the experiences of Eva Paddock, who arrived in Britain aged three on transport arranged by Sir Nicholas Winton. It also features the remarkable story of sisters Ida and Louise Cook, who secretly transported valuables for Jewish refugees before the war.

Loughborough Library will host the opening of the exhibition on Friday 27 March between 11am and 12pm, giving visitors the chance to view the exhibition and learn more about the stories of rescue it commemorates from 16 European countries. The exhibition is on display until 21 April 2026.

It is now touring the UK throughout 2026 starting in Southend‑on‑Sea and travelling to Worcester, Redditch, Loughborough, Salford and Huddersfield, as well as Camden, Sutton and Barnet in London.
