Loughborough hosts digital skills training for youngsters

An innovative event featuring a wide range of digital technologies is coming to Loughborough Library this week.

On Thursday 1 February, the Granby Street base will host the Tech-tastic festival which provides opportunities for children, families and young people to have fun and get creative as they learn about science, technology, engineering and maths.

Library staff and volunteers will be joined by a number of regional organisations who will showcase a range of technologies including 3D printing, coding, circuit building and virtual reality.

Organisations taking part include blackhack.it, Code Club, Charnwood Arts, Cuttlefish Media, Interact Labs, Phoenix, and Radar at Loughborough University (LU) Arts.

 

Libraries have always been places to learn and to be inspired. They now have an important role to play in providing opportunities for children and young people to develop valuable, new skills which are relevant for their future lives and careers

 

The Tech-tastic festival will also mark the launch of Leicestershire Libraries’ new BBC micro:bit lending scheme.

The micro:bit is a hand-held computer used to programme a wide range of creations from robots to musical instruments. From 1 February, BBC micro:bits will be available for a loan of up to three weeks  and available from Loughborough, Hinckley, Market Harborough and Oadby libraries.
