Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP)

The Leicestershire Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP) sets out our ambitions to deliver the Government National Bus Strategy, which the council fully supports.

Leicestershire Bus Service Improvement Plan 2024

This document sets out our vision and plan for improving bus services and growing bus patronage in Leicestershire, in line with the National Bus Strategy.

Our Leicestershire Bus Service Improvement Plan 2024 (LBSIP24) will play a key role in achieving the Local transport Plan (LTP4) goals as it sets out our ambitious proposals for improving bus services across Leicestershire including:

  • Measures to improve bus service reliability and frequency
  • Reviewing the Leicestershire bus network to provide a mix of service types and better frequencies / later journeys to complement commercial provision
  • Introduction of new ticketing arrangements to make bus travel more affordable, particularly for young people
  • Improvements to bus service information using different operators’ services and paying fares
  • Measures to improve integration between different bus services and between bus and rail and other travel modes such as cycling, walking and e-mobility
  • An expansion in the number of areas where Demand Responsive Transport services (DRTs) are available
  • Integrating school and commuter travel into services
  • Encouraging and supporting the move to ‘greener’ fleets

BSIP annual review report 2022

The Leicestershire BSIP was published in October 2021 by Leicestershire County Council and its partners, and it sets out the context and vision for bus service delivery in the county. The 2022 BSIP annual review report document represents the first review of the BSIP and sets out any changes which have occurred during the last year, as well as any changes relating to the delivery of the BSIP and its targets.

Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP) October 2021

Our 2021 BSIP has been developed in cooperation with local bus operators and sets out proposals for improving bus services in Leicestershire. It takes account of views expressed by residents and visitors to Leicestershire and other interested parties and organisations, and takes account of discussions with neighbouring authorities and community transport operators.
