LED Street Lighting Programme
In 2010, the council made a commitment to invest in LED lighting technology to save money and reduce the environmental impact of our street lights.
So far, around 99 per cent of the low and high level lights have been upgraded as part of a planned £25 million investment programme. This involves replacing existing street lights and removing unnecessary highway sign lighting.
The technology being installed is set to save us £2 million a year and the scheme has already seen a reduction in the carbon footprint by 4,450 tonnes.
The new energy saving and cost efficient lights will also be controlled through a central management system, which will allow for any faults to be rectified quickly.
