Join us this All-Hallows’ Eve for an atmospheric tour of our ancient house. The 17th Century was a very superstitious time: witchcraft and other worldly spirits were feared by the masses. King James I even wrote a book on ‘Daemonologie’ outlining the ways in which sorcery and demons could corrupt.
As such, certain measures and practices were undertaken to protect against such evils. Evidence of this is found throughout our house from markings on the walls & ceilings to burnings in wood and graffiti in windows.
Our wonderful volunteers will guide you on a tour through the house and you’ll learn about the various beliefs and superstitions of old and witness a collection of different marks made to protect the house from evil spirits.
