New foster carer role for Leicestershire

People needed to help young people and families build relationships

Intensive foster support needed for youngsters

An all-new foster carer role has been created in Leicestershire.

The county council is recruiting people willing to help unite young people with their families and prevent them going in to long-term care.

They are needed to take older children, aged 11 to 17, into their homes for eight to 12 weeks.

The specialist carers, known as ‘parallel foster carers’, will work with the young person and their family to rebuild relationships so they can find the path forward and stay together.

We are looking for people who are passionate about helping young people get the best chance in life.

“With support from a dedicated team, our new specialist foster carers could support a child in crisis, help them rebuild a relationship with their family and ultimately prevent them from staying in care long-term.

“This is a fantastic, rewarding role for anyone who would like to play a part in helping young people improve their life chances.

Councillor Ivan Ould, county council cabinet member for children and families

The council is looking for individuals who have a professional background in working with teenagers and young people.

Full specialist training will be given and there will be close, ongoing support from the fostering team.
