Resurfacing of M1 junction 22 slip roads

Overnight closures of M1 junction 22 slip roads will be in place across two weekends

Junction 22, M1

Overnight road closures of two M1 slip roads in the north of Leicestershire will start this weekend.

As part of the A511 improvement scheme, the north and southbound exit slip roads at junction 22 will be closed to allow for resurfacing work by Galliford Try, on behalf of Leicestershire County Council.

To reduce the impact to motorists using the motorway, the closures will be in place across two weekends:

  • Southbound exit from the M1 onto the A50 at Markfield closed:

Saturday 4 June at 8pm until 10am on Sunday 5 June

Sunday 5 June at 8pm until 6am on Monday 6 June

  • Northbound exit from the M1 onto the A511 at Markfield closed:

Saturday 11 June at 8pm until 10am on Sunday 12 June

Sunday 12 June at 8pm until 6am on Monday 13 June

Diversion routes for motorists wanting to exit the motorway here will be clearly signposted, with drivers also being encouraged to use the exits at junction 23 and 21 instead.

The scheme is being carried out to improve the capacity of the A511, particularly at its junction with the M1 to cater for increased levels of traffic expected from a growing economy. The scheme should be completed by August 2016.

The project is funded partly by a £2.54 million contribution provided through the Leicester and Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership’s Local Growth Deal, and is being managed by Leicestershire County Council.
