Budgeting for young people

As a young person, you may want to manage your own affairs and the money you've been given for your care so you can be more independent.

When you can take over decisions that your parent/carer would usually make

  • You need to be over compulsory school age, which is at the end of the school year that you become 16.
  • Your right to make decisions could be affected by your mental capacity - for example, how well you would be able to manage your own money and budget.
