Leicestershire County Council is sharing details of Market Harborough transport enhancements.
Residents are invited to attend drop-in events in Market Harborough to share their views on a series of transport schemes for the town.
They include redesigning key junctions, widening pavements, improving crossings and tree planting.
Officers from Leicestershire County Council will be on hand from 10am – 4pm in the Market Hall on Thursday 6 November and from 10am to 2pm in Market Harborough Library on Saturday 8 November.
People are welcome to attend, view the proposals and early designs, speak with council officers and share their views.
Plans include:
- Widened pavements to create more space for cyclists and pedestrians and new junction crossings that prioritise walking, cycling, and wheeling on the ‘Rockingham Road’ corridor
- Redesigned junctions with the aim to ease congestion and support smoother travel at St Mary’s Road / Kettering Road and Rockingham Road / Gores Lane
- Making Clarence Street one-way northbound up to the junction with Albert Road
Councillor Charles Whitford, lead member for highways and transport at Leicestershire County Council, said: “This is a great opportunity for our team to hear directly from the people who use Market Harborough’s roads and paths every day. We want to understand what works, what doesn’t, and how we can help people make real choices about how they travel.”
The proposed transport enhancements will be phased and are being funded through money secured from housing developers (Section 106 contributions) and The Consolidated Active Travel Fund from Active Travel England.
