Calling passionate children’s social workers who celebrate equality, diversity and inclusion and challenge discrimination at every level.
We’re looking for a Disabled Children’s Social Worker to join our team. We are made up of two social work teams and an occupational therapy team, led by an experienced Service Manager and Head of Service.
We are committed to doing our very best for all our children and families, working to help them achieve their potential and flourish.
We will drive this through the Road to Excellence, our continuous improvement plan 2021-23, which sets out our ambitions, core values and behaviours and how we will achieve best practice.
Our service has also been working on a Defining Children and Family Services for the Future programme, establishing clear practice priorities and a programme of support and training for Social Workers. We want to ensure we are focused not only on the needs of children and young people now, but also in the future, to help them be independent and achieve their aspiration.
Leicestershire County Council also believes strongly in trauma informed practice, establishing relationships built on trust, using past and current experiences to build for the future. As such, our social workers also have access to trauma informed training through the ‘Stronger Together’ programme.
Signs of Safety is the expected practice methodology and having knowledge of this and an understanding is desirable, however, training in Signs of Safety will be available.
We are looking for:
- An energetic and enthusiastic qualified children’s social worker who is able to share passion for practice
- Someone with a ‘can- do’ attitude
- A team player
- AYSE Social Workers are also invited to apply.
We warmly welcome those from all cultures, ethnicities and beliefs, including those whose own experience of disability can serve as an inspiration - this diversity is vital to our journey and is fundamental to our values and enriches the service we offer our Children and Families.
As a Disabled Children's Social Worker, there are a number of benefits to joining the team including:
- Three annual conferences for staff to motivate and encourage them to be the best they can be.
- Our ‘bottom line’ is that every month each team sets aside time for team learning.
- Each month team managers attend a ‘learning set’.
- We encourage reflective supervision and group supervision skills.
- Twice a year our senior leaders spend a week with social workers observing practice and talking to young people and parents and carers about their experience of services.
- We have given all registered workers three protected CPD days and pay for professional registration fees.
- Our training offer to social workers is refreshed each year (and is highly valued by our staff).
- We have a team dedicated to support practice excellence who work alongside practitioners offering training and coaching and mentoring to build practitioner confidence.
- We have embedded the Signs of Safety approach across Social Care and our early help teams and all our teams are trained in this methodology. The approach is now used sub-regionally and there is a strong support network in place in the area.
- Our Practice Development Group was established to develop the idea of ‘distributed leadership’ helping staff to collaborate on aspects of practice development.
As a member of staff at the Council we also offer:
- Local Government Pension Scheme
- Well regarded employee counselling services
- Free car parking
- Cycle to work scheme
- Paid SW England registration
- Lease car scheme
- Option to purchase of additional leave
- Discounts at high-street stores and supermarket shopping
- Special offers on leisure activities and gym membership
