Is it for me?
A care leaver is someone under the age of 25 who has been looked after by the Leicestershire County Council as a child. To get support under Leicestershire’s Care Leaver Local Offer, you must have been in our care for at least 13 weeks after your 14th birthday and some of these 13 weeks must have been after your 16th birthday.
If you’re not sure if you are eligible for support, call our duty team on 0116 305 3051, or email careleaversuascduty@leics.gov.uk
We know that leaving care involves a lot of changes and we’re committed to making this a positive and exciting next step in your life. A move has been made to ensure children and young people in Leicestershire who are care experienced face less of a disadvantage in life.
Leicestershire County Council has achieved making ‘care experienced’ a protected characteristic. We recognise that the experience of being a child in care can be a potential source of discrimination, like other protected characteristics under the Equality Act 2010 such as race or disability.
This includes discrimination which results in results in disproportionate negative outcomes across a range of areas such as Housing, Employment, Education and Exposure to the criminal justice system.
The offer is not just about what the council itself can do to help you, but also our partner agencies and the wider community. We can achieve so much more when we all work together.
