A46 and Anstey Lane improvement scheme

A scheme to help accommodate the extra traffic generated by the Ashton Green development and anticipated growth from future developments in the north of Leicester and in the county was completed in later summer 2020.

The £10.7m scheme, which was funded by National Highways' Growth and Housing Fund, an allocation from the Local Growth Fund, a pot of government funding awarded to the Leicester and Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership (LLEP), and Leicester City Council as the developer of Ashton Green involved:

  • extending the length of the existing dual carriageway in both directions and increasing the number of lanes on the approaches to the roundabouts at Bennion Road and the A46 junction
  • providing traffic signal control at the roundabouts at Bennion Road and the A46 junction
  • improvements to pedestrian and cycling routes and pedestrian crossing facilities.
