A scheme to help accommodate the extra traffic that will be generated by the Ashton Green development is now under way. Due to be completed by Summer 2020, it will also support growth anticipated from future developments in the north of Leicester and in the county.
The £10.5m scheme, which is being funded by Highways England’s Growth and Housing Fund, an allocation from the Local Growth Fund, a pot of government funding awarded to the Leicester and Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership (LLEP), and Leicester City Council as the developer of Ashton Green involves:
extending the length of the existing dual carriageway in both directions and increasing the number of lanes on the approaches to the roundabouts at Bennion Road and the A46 junction
providing traffic signal control at the roundabouts at Bennion Road and the A46 junction
improvements to pedestrian and cycling routes and pedestrian crossing facilities.
